Pitt Hockey Alumni

The University of Pittsburgh Men's Ice Hockey Program currently offers two teams, both of which are registered in the American Collegiate Hockey Association, one in Division I, and one in Division II. Since 1992, the ACHA has been the central governing body for all club hockey teams in the United States, and has roughly 350 teams registered in its five divisions.

Our first team competes in ACHA DI and plays a 35 game schedule as part of an ACHA DI conference, College Hockey Mid-America (CHMA). CHMA was established in 2007 and includes opponents familiar to many alumni: Slippery Rock, West Virginia, Duquesne, IUP, Washington and Jefferson, John Carroll, and Youngstown State. In addition to home and away games with each CHMA opponent, our first team has games with many of the best ACHA teams in the region, such as Penn State, Kent State, Oakland University, Navy, Mercyhurst, Robert Morris, Drexel, and Rutgers.

Our second team, an ACHA DII team, plays a 25 game schedule and is a full member of what is now known as College Hockey East, but has been known in the past as the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Hockey Association (WPCHA) and the Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Hockey Association (WPIHA). Both the WPCHA and WPIHA were home to the first team prior to the ACHA era beginning at Pitt in 1997.

Alumni are encouraged to visit the Sponsors page, which details the ways that alumni can get involved with the program. We ask that you keep our non-profit organization in mind, and can provide you with paperwork for tax purposes.

We have been collecting alumni information and storing in it the Alumni Database.

Since 2001, the Pitt Hockey Program has hosted an alumni game, which usually takes place at the end of March or the beginning of April. This year's alumni events will be October 2, 2010 in conjunction with the D1 game at home vs. Penn State. Please click on the alumni game schedule link for more information!

Due to the increased interest from alumni, the alumni game was changed to an alumni vs. alumni format in 2008.
