The Pitt Panthers posted a second consecutive winning season in 2008-09, only their third year as part of the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Division 1. In addition, the Panthers finished the season ranked #20 in the country, a high for the organization

This year, the Panthers have increased their non-conference schedule considerably, with #4 West Chester, #11 Robert Morris University, #11 Kent State, #17 Michigan-Dearborn, and #19 Oakland making appearances. Additionally, the Panthers accepted an invitation to the ACHA D1 Showcase, where they will face three more tough opponents.

The Panthers will be led once again by Head Coach Tom Rieck, in his seventh season as a head coach and tenth year overall in the organization. Coach Rieck will be assisted by fourth year assistant Mike King, and second year assistant Toki Barron.
